Yesterday, we brought to you a pretty confusing thing that AMD has done. The tech giants after releasing the desktop graphics cards named as Radeon Vega series have released a new mobile graphics series and two of them GPUs are named as Radeon Vega 8 and Radeon Vega 10 Mobile Graphics.
Yes! you are right, AMD has selected a very confusing naming convention and that too on a wrong time when they just had released the desktop GPUs. The general name of the upcoming series of AMD’s APUs was selected to be Raven Ridge but the individual products released by the company are playing with the minds of customers.
The Vega GPU
Coming on a lower level, OpenCL’s manifesto says that the upcoming Ryzen 7 2700U will be using the above-mentioned Radeon Vega 10 Mobile GPU while the Ryzen 5 2500U will be housing the Radeon Vega 8 Mobile GPU. If you are thinking about the Vega 10 as a better performer, GFXBench has ranked it lower than the other variant as Vega 8 comes with more Compute Units than its Vega 10 Mobile counterpart. We are talking about 11 CUs in the Vega 8 which means and 704 Stream Processors. On the other hand, Vega 10 will come with 8 CUs and 512 Stream Processors.
These APUs will be coming out later this year so the facts shared above have to be taken with a pinch of salt. The APUs will be rolling out as a part of the AMD Ryzen 2000 series of APUs.
