AMD Ryzen 7, Ryzen 5, Ryzen 3 Pro CPU’s lineup Confirmed by USB.org

This has been quite a long time rumor and obviously before we knew about the naming conventions there was some rumors that a Pro series of Ryzen processor known as Zen and then finally we got the naming conventions of Ryzen 7, Ryzen 5 and there was no mention of whatsoever of the Pro so, we kind of thought maybe AMD have dropped it or there were some ambiguity there.

But no! it actually is a thing and you can check this out by yourself by going to USB.org who are responsible for maintaining USB standards.

You can quite see in the above image that only Summit Ridge AM4 SOC which lists the Ryzen 7 1800X, 1700X, the Ryzen 7 1700, the Ryzen 3 1200, Ryzen 5 1400, 1600 and then this is the exciting part Ryzen 3 Pro, Ryzen 5 Pro, Ryzen 5 Pro 1600 and finally Ryzen 7 Pro 1700. That is a lot of processors and this is because AMD wanted to get their processors essentially certified to comply with USB 3.1 Gen1 standards.

Now there are two questions which are automatically raised by the inclusion of the pro series. The first is what actually are they? what is the difference between Pro 1700 and a regular plain old 1700? is there lack of overclocking and the clocks speed different? For example you can take it as Pro as in it’s meant for professional use therefore it runs at lower clock speeds. Perhaps lower TDP?

The other way of looking at it is it essentially going to be cheaper to produce? The other question which is raised automatically by this is “when are they going to be introduced into the market?” AMD are pretty swamped at the moment at the moment in terms of their lineup. Ryzen 5 are not going to be too long in the distant future, just a couple of weeks basically. And then within pretty much the same time window you also got the Polaris re-brand/re-architecture tweaking.

Anyway it’s going to be interesting how all of this comes together and we’ll let you know as soon as we hear more about the Ryzen Pro 1700.
