AMD is currently doing quite well with their new Ryzen chips. Which certainly puts the company back in the game. But as it seems people are taking advantage of the fame that AMD Ryzen is getting. As two users, who ordered the AMD Ryzen 7 1700 got scammed on Amazon. Where instead of getting the real chip, the users got fake ones from the retailer.
These fake AMD Ryzen 7 1700 chips were in fact the Intel Celeron chips with Ryzen branding on it. The picture of one of the fake Ryzen chip was also shared by a Reddit user named shooter999. Where he showed an Intel Celeron processor. That had an AMD Ryzen branding on it. But as you can clearly see from the design of the heat spreader, the chip is from Intel.
The users also said that the fake chip also came with a damaged heat sink. While the packaging of the product was also suspicious. Though users who cant distinguish real Ryzen chip from the fake one, could also damage their chips. As the Intel chips does not come with any pins on it. Which combined with the pinless design of the new AM4 socket, will damage both the motherboard and the chip. Especially if the user tries to push it too hard while fitting the heatsink on top.
So how did something like this happen on a well reputed retailer like Amazon? Well it looks like the retailers on Amazon were trying to fraud people. Bu ordering real AMD Ryzen chips, while replacing them with fake Intel Celeron chips. Though Amazon wouldn’t have known that something like that happened with the package, while shipping it to the consumer.
That being the case Amazon was fully cooperative with these two consumers. As a result both the customers were sent replacement processor, the next day. Aside from that both the customers also received a gift card for their worries. Though Amazon will be keeping a check on their next AMD Ryzen shipment. We would advise against buying from a third party retailer on Amazon in the future.
