Western Digital is a well-established name in the industry of memory manufacturers. The company has just announced two new SSDs named ‘PC SN720’ and ‘PC SN520’. Both the SSDs are NVMe-based and can be your perfect business partner.
The SSDs are basically made for homes and in-house usage, where greater throughput speeds are required. For example, IoT, edge computing, and mobile computing markets. Not only this, PC manufacturers may include these drives in the small form factor laptops, 2-in-1s, and embedded PCs.According to the Senior Director of Client SSD, Devices Business Unit, Western Digital, Eyal Bek:
With this new vertically integrated SSD platform, we are able to optimize the architecture to our NAND for low latency and power efficiency, and most important, for the growing range of applications benefiting from NVMe, the scalable architecture supports a range of capacity and performance points, while streamlining system qualification to improve time-to-market for our customers.
For the SN720, WD has released four variants including 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB and all of them are said to arrive on a single-sided M.2 2280 form factor. On the other hand, the SN520 will have 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB variants arriving on single-sided M.2 2280, M.2 2242, or M.2 2230 form factors. The drive is said to have read and write speeds of 3.4GB/sec and 2.8GB/sec respectively.
